Hey everyone! In this video, I show you a very simple and easy way to make homemade seitan! Seitan is wonderful (and one day I will learn how to pronounce it). It's yummy, can be a meat alternative for many different flavors and dishes, and is super high in protein!

I can never find seitan at my local grocery store, so I decided to research how to make seitan for you guys! I found Connoisseurus Veg's recipe and tweaked it a bit. Their recipe is located here if you want to try the original: https://www.connoisseurusveg.com/how-...

The recipe I used:
Dough:
- 1 cup vital wheat gluten
- 1/4 cup cassava flour (can also use chickpea flour)
- 1 cup water
Beef flavor broth:
- 5 1/2 cups veggie broth
- 1/2 cup red wine vinegar
- 1/3 cup soy sauce
- 2 tblsp vegan Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tblsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp black powder

Method I did:
1. Mix the vital wheat gluten flour and cassava flour
2. Pour in the water and mix into a soft dough
3. Knead for 5 minutes
4. Let the dough rest for 5 minutes
5. While the dough is resting, combine all of the ingredients for the broth
6. Bring the broth to a boil, then lower the heat so the broth is simmering
7. Chop your seitan into a few long strips (or more strips if you want, keep in mind the seitan will expand in size)
8. Fry each side of your seitan in a pan of oil on medium high heat, one minute per side
9. Put your seitan into the simmering broth
10. Cook your seitan for one hour, uncovered, making sure the broth does not boil and remains at a simmer
11. Drain your seitan
12. Fry each side of your seitan in a pan of oil on medium high heat, one minute per side
13. Enjoy in your favorite dish!!!

You can put this seitan in a sandwich, a stir fry, a wrap, a salad, a rice bowl, or you can grill it!! It keeps for roughly a week in the fridge.
