THE INSTITUTE OF PHYSICS IN IRELAND [IOPI] is part of the Institute of Physics, which is a leading scientific society promoting physics and bringing physicists together for the benefit of all.
We have over 2000 members and are a part of the Institute of Physics, a charitable organisation and leading scientific society.
The Institute of Physics in Ireland operates in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland on an ‘all island’ basis. We aim to promote the role of physics in society, covering education, health, the environment, and technology. Our membership is wide-ranging and multidisciplinary, including the education, industrial and medical sectors and the general public. We also seek common purpose with other organisations to promote science and science-based learning and to influence science policy in both the Houses of the Oireachtas and the Northern Ireland Assembly. Special emphasis is placed on supporting physics teachers by promoting in our schools the value, joy and benefits of a knowledge of physics and its applications.
