The initial checkout of a CEW Lighting 175-Watts Metal Halide and 250-Watts Quartz Hook Mount Luminaire model GLX2817-1Q.

These would have been very expensive, top of the line fixtures back in their day, which was probably somewhere within the last 15 years, more or less. In theory, the metal halide and Quartz bulb should both illuminate when the fixture is first powered on, giving it an 'instant-start' appearance. After the metal halide bulb has brightened, the Quarts bulb would turn off. This is identical to the concept of General Electric's Bright From The Start CFLs.

These fixtures also utilize a good quality high power factor ballast. Despite being 75 watts more powerful than the Mini Sunburst fixtures currently installed in the garage, the amperage is only about half. Since these have proper refracting lenses over the bulbs, I suspect I can utilize only 3 fixtures in the garage, rather than 4. This would bring the lighting draw down from 12 amps to only 4.5, which I can work with.
