What is JEEViKA

JEEViKA (also called Bihar Rural Livelihoods Project / Bihar Rural Livelihoods Promotion Society, BRLPS) is a government initiative in Bihar, under the Department of Rural Development, aimed at social and economic empowerment of the rural poor.


It helps poor households especially via Self-Help Groups (SHGs): organizing them, giving training, helping access livelihood opportunities, credit, etc.



Several programs are under its umbrella, like “Mahila Rojgar Yojana” (women’s employment), “Jeevika Nidhi” (financial cooperation for Jeevika SHGs), etc.

Key Features / Additional Information

There is a focus on livelihood restoration & enhancement, especially in disaster-affected areas (for example, the Kosi flood project) as well.


JEEViKA helps in increasing incomes, improving food security, improving decision-making power of women, overall reduction in poverty among participating households.


It also acts through market support mechanisms (helping people with value chains, non-farm activities etc.) as well as agriculture and livestock.


Recently (2025) there are recruitment drives under BRLPS for many posts.

How to Apply / Get Involved

There are different ways to apply, depending on whether you want:

To join as a beneficiary (i.e. be part of SHGs, get livelihood support).

To apply for a job / position under JEEViKA / BRLPS.

I'll cover both.
1. As a Beneficiary

If you are a rural poor household and want to benefit from JEEViKA (e.g. join a Self Help Group, get livelihood or credit support), here’s what to do:

Find your local JEEViKA / BRLPS office or block-level office in your area. They often organize awareness camps.

Ask about Self-Help Groups (SHGs) under Jeevika in your village. If there is such a group, you may need to meet eligibility criteria (usually being from a rural poor household, possibly women, etc.).

Provide required documents (proof of residence, identity, maybe income status).

Participate in training or meetings. After you are part of a SHG, you might get access to livelihood assistance, small loans, skill training.

Since the exact process may vary block to block, the easiest is to visit the BRLPS website or your local panchayat / rural development office to see the latest scheme in your district.
2. Applying for a Job under JEEViKA / BRLPS

If you want to apply for a recruitment under JEEViKA, here are the steps (based on the latest 2025 recruitment drive as example).

Read notification

Register / Fill application
Fill the online application form. This includes basic personal details, educational credentials, contact info, uploading photo / signature / documents.

Pay fees (if applicable)
There is usually an application fee (varies by category). For example in the 2025 drive, for unreserved / EBC / BC / EWS it was ₹800, for SC / ST / PH it was ₹500.

Submit and keep proof
Submit the form, download / print the confirmation / summary page. Keep copies of everything.

Selection process
Depending on the post, there may be a Computer Based Test (CBT), typing test (for some roles), document verification, etc.

To give a concrete example, here are some details from the 2025 recruitment:

Total vacancies: 2,747 for various posts.

Posts include: Block Project Manager, Livelihood Specialist, Area Coordinator, Community Coordinator, Accountant, Office Assistant, Block IT Executive.


The application window opened on 30 July 2025 and has been extended to 21 August 2025.


Eligibility: varies by post; some require graduate degree, others postgrad in relevant fields, etc. Age limits differ among categories.
