How to Rename a User Profile Folder Name in Windows **READ THE DESCRIPTION FIRST BEFORE DOING THIS**

*WARNING!!*
Do this at your own risk since some people have had issues after performing the process while others have it work for them without any issues. You should also do this while logged on as a different user account. Be sure to do a registry backup or System Restore backup beforehand in case you run into issues because this is one of those hacks that can make a mess of your system. And if you hose your system and didn't back it up, don't blame me ;)

By default, Windows will create user profile folder names based on the first 5 letters of your Microsoft account. But this might not work for many people and you might want to change the folder name so the path works better for your naming convention. To do so, you will need to find the SID and make a quick registry change and you will be all set.

From an administrative command prompt run:
wmic useraccount get name,SID

Make a note of the value for the user you want to change.
S-1-5-21-2390432404-2133789399-2764689805-1005

In the registry editor, navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

Open on ProfileImagePath

Type in the new username after C:\users

Go to File Explorer and rename the old user folder to match the new one you changed for the ProfileImagePath value.
