How to Install SC Fiber Optic Fast Connector

Описание к видео How to Install SC Fiber Optic Fast Connector

The fiber optic fast connector, also known as a fiber optic quick connector, is a type of fiber connector designed to quickly and conveniently terminate fiber optic cables. It eliminates the need for time-consuming and complex fusion splicing techniques, making fiber optic fast connector a popular choice for field installations or situations where time is of the essence.
The fiber optic fast connector mainly assemble FTTH fiber optic drop cable into fiber optic jumper and also terminate various single mode or multimode optical cables with diameters of 0.9mm, 2.0mm, and 3.0mm. The fiber optic fast connector allow field assembly of fiber optic patch cords to suit different installation requirements. This innovative field end fast connector simplifies the termination process and provides flexibility for different optical fiber types, making it a versatile solution for efficient fiber optic installations.
The Type of Fiber Optic Fast Connector
Fiber optic fast connectors can be divided into different categories based on their connection mechanisms. The two main categories are mechanical type and hot fusion type. Within the mechanical connector category, there are pre-embedded and straight-through types. Here is a breakdown of these categories:
1. Mechanical Type:
a. Straight-Through Fiber Optic Fast Connector
The straight-through fiber optic fast connector is relatively easy to implement and has a lower cost compared to other types. However, it has certain limitations and requirements that need to be considered. The straight-through fiber optic fast connector requires strict adherence to the fiber diameter, cut end face quality, and cut length. Additionally, the return loss index of this fiber optic fast connector type is relatively poor, as it heavily depends on the condition of the fiber cutting end face. Therefore, operators need to have a high level of technical proficiency to achieve optimal results when using straight-through connectors.
b. Pre-Embedded Fiber Optic Fast Connector
The pre-embedded fiber optic fast connector belongs to the pre-embedded optical fiber structure. In this design, a section of bare optical fiber is pre-inserted into a ceramic ferrule during the manufacturing process and is polished at the factory. When installing the fast connector on-site, the operator only needs to cut off the other end of the optical fiber and insert it. This type of fast connector offers several advantages. Since the pre-embedded optical fiber is already polished and the butt joint is filled with matching liquid, the pre-embedded fiber optic fast connector reduces the reliance on the flatness of the fiber end face cut. As a result, the operator's proficiency level is not as critical as with the straight-through type.
2. Hot Fusion Type:
The hot fusion fiber optic fast connector also embeds an optical fiber from the ferrule to the inside of the fast connector. During splicing, removing the fast connector tail sleeve, and the exposed tight-buffered optical fiber is peeled and cut. The fiber core of the optical cable to be terminated is then fused with the embedded fiber using a fiber splicing machine. However, it's important to note that the ease of operation may not be significantly improved compared to conventional fusion splicing. Therefore, the adoption of fusion-type fast connectors is relatively limited in the industry.
How to Install and Use Fiber Optic Fast Connector
1. Remove the fiber optic fast connector end cover and pass the optical cable through;
2. Use an optical fiber stripper to strip the sheath of the optical cable, the length is about 4-5cm;
3. Cut the exposed coating with Miller pliers close to the edge of the clamp to expose the optical fiber;
4. Wipe the bare fiber clean with a dustproof cloth;
5. Use a fiber optic cleaver to cut the optical fiber;
6. The optical fiber needs to be bending when insert optical fiber into fiber optic fast connector. When the optical fiber is initially bent into an arc state, press the crimping cover down;
7. Screw the end cap on the optical cable back into the fiber optic fast connector and fixed the housing.
