Siskel & Ebert Classics - 2/27/99 - Remembering Gene Siskel

Описание к видео Siskel & Ebert Classics - 2/27/99 - Remembering Gene Siskel

This is the episode that ran the weekend after Gene's passing. Obviously it's been uploaded many times before, but I wanted to put up my personal copy for posterity. Includes all original commercials (this is a Directv recording off KTLA in Los Angeles).

After this, the show was never the same for me, as I know it wasn't for many others, so I ended my weekly recordings shortly thereafter (frankly one of the reasons I am missing the later 97-99 years was that I taped over them years back. I never really thought about it then, but in hindsight, it was difficult to watch Gene's sickness and some of the shows where he participated by phone. It was remarkable to see him keep going but it was not the easiest thing to witness week to week).

Watching Gene and Roger every week took me from my very earliest memories of ever watching TV through to graduating from college and just a little bit before I met my wife. I feel both of them were a huge part of my life and these shows not only function today as a tribute to them, but also the movies themselves -- the marketplace of which was in a VERY different place back then (as these episodes attest...how wonderful it is to go back and discover some truly buried treasures in them!).

I do have a few more episodes to upload here and there but as you can tell, mostly we're reaching the end of the run of my own S&E archive. I thank all of you for joining me on this journey and I know, from reading the comments I've read over last the year or two, many of us miss both of them dearly -- which is why keeping these shows alive is so important (besides being so entertaining still to watch!).
