Today I want to talk about the reef tank chemistry that lies in the very core of reef keeping. If your fish or corals are in a sub-optimal health condition, instead of treating the fish or corals, you treat the water. This is, in my opinion, a very profound message that is not only applied to reef keeping, but also to our everyday work and life. The number one enemy that is holding you back from success is your surroundings that you have to be aware of. It’s virtually impossible to change your lives without changing the environment. So what water parameters are optimal? Different aquarists have different answers due to various focuses of the niche specimens they intend to culture. But there are a few fundamental chemistry principles that I believe most reefers would agree on.
