Back Story:
I am an average Joe guitarist who cannot afford Fractal Audio AXE FX II - or variants - not ready to spend a tonne of cash on my hobby. Hence, I went and brought the next best thing PODHD500X. I was also contemplating BOSS GT100 .

I was so disappointed with the HD500x that I ended up returning the item back. Firstly at $500 it is not the cheapest for an average hobby guitarist but relatively affordable than Kemper or Fractal products. Specifically for NON-US and NON-EU residents this price tag is still very high. Obviously I do not expect the quality of tube Amps but I am also tired of gimmick sounds that most digital Amps provide. Line6 give me max 5-10 sounds but make them absolutely immaculate and awesome rather than 500 sounds. Secondly, it has issues working with Linux and being a huge Linux proponent, that is a deal breaker - audio interface would not come up - being a developer I tweaked source and compiled drivers from sources yet had problems - screw that proprietary stuff - open source rocks! Every time I selected Amps and then FX just to get the sound right then DSP would run out of juice preventing me from adding just the right tweaks.

Long story short, I ended up returning PODHD500X and instead bought Focusrite 2i2 Audio Interface for ~ $200. I wasn't interested in foot switch controllers and all those gimmicks anyway. Let's reserve those for professionals and advanced players. I saved $300 there and also I could use any VST/Amp modelling software - Rakarrack was supported by Ubuntu hence tried it with Jack and it did the trick. Ardour is awesome for recording. Pretty happy right now with the quality of the sound. Impressed with very very small latency - almost negligible to my friend's untrained ears :-D
