Crossing Lake Michigan in a single engine airplane

Описание к видео Crossing Lake Michigan in a single engine airplane

When departing AirVenture 2022 from Oshkosh, Wisconsin, AOPA's Sierra Harrop had a decision to make on how to route back toward home base in Frederick, Maryland. Go around Lake Michigan, past the Chicago Skyline, or to go over it. She was in a Van's RV12, and calculated that the airplane could glide to either shore from the center of the planned route, if flown at or above 11,300' msl. She elected to cross the lake at 11,500' msl. This video talks through that decision making process, and the steps she took to mitigate risk while crossing a large body of water in a single engine airplane.
