Описание к видео Speed react to finding out Ethiopia is 8 years past and that they are still in 2018 😭🇪🇹

The post features a clip of streamer IShowSpeed reacting with shock and humour upon learning Ethiopia uses the Ge'ez calendar, placing the country in 2018 while the world is in 2026, joking about time travel and being eight years younger.

Ethiopia's calendar, based on ancient Coptic traditions, runs seven to eight years behind the Gregorian due to differing calculations of the Annunciation date, and includes 13 months—12 of 30 days plus a short 13th.

Ethiopia officially uses its own Ethiopian calendar (also called the Ge'ez calendar), which runs about 7–8 years behind the Gregorian calendar most of the world follows.

Right now in January 2026 (Gregorian), Ethiopia is still in 2018 in their system. Their New Year (Enkutatash) starts in September (usually September 11 or 12 Gregorian), so they entered 2018 back in September 2025. By September 2026, they'll hit 2019.

The main reason for the gap? Different historical calculations of Jesus' birth date (the Annunciation). The Gregorian calendar (and Julian before it) placed it earlier, while the Ethiopian Orthodox tradition calculated it roughly 7–8 years later. So their year count starts from that different point.

It's not just the year difference—Ethiopia has 13 months too: 12 months with exactly 30 days each, plus a short 13th month (Pagume) with 5 or 6 days. Super unique!

People always react like "wait, they're still in 2018?!" when they hear it, especially around New Year's. It's one of those cool cultural quirks that makes Ethiopia stand out.
