We know that cleaning up our nature areas 🎶Don’t Come Easy🎶, but our 17th Cleanup at Bannon Island was a little extra special Friday morning. It focused on a super trashy spot we’ve eyed for months, complete with a huge earthen bunker 5 to 6 feet deep with buried trash and debris as its floor. While a crew worked to clean (then *mostly fill) the bunker, another crew scoured the area and removed mounds and mounds of trash.

At the end of the morning, we had removed an estimated 4,500 lbs of trash and debris from the Parkway, and mostly filled in a dangerous hole that invited future occupation and dumping. The organic material moved into the hole (branches and soil) was a massive undertaking, as was the cleanup of the surrounding areas, covered with dense vegetation.

Thank you to our fearless leader Mark Baker who led us away from last week's yellow jacket hive, then retreated to last week's spot to spray the nest, and to all the amazing volunteers, for a fabulous and productive morning!
