Buford Highway | Best Food in Atlanta, Georgia | International Restaurants | Mamak | Yet Tuh

Описание к видео Buford Highway | Best Food in Atlanta, Georgia | International Restaurants | Mamak | Yet Tuh

We visited the thriving southern city of Atlanta to discover what foods it had to offer. We visited Buford Highway and dined at Las Delicias de la Abuela, Sweet Hut, Quoc Huong, El Taco Veloz, Northern China Eatery, Yet Tuh, Mamak, and Matcha Cafe Maiko. It wasn't the glitz we were after. We knew that Anthony Bourdain asked famed southern chef Sean Brock, "What was the best thing about Atlanta?" And he quickly responded, “Buford Highway is pretty bad ass”. So, we headed to the eight mile stretch of road that runs northeast from Atlanta to Doraville - a place where much of the world is well represented. It encompasses a c-note of international restaurants - many of which have gained high acclaim.

Buford Highway Farmers Market
First stop however, was to the Buford Highway Farmers Market. This place is something special, Atlanta local and Top Chef Richard Blais explained to Anthony Bourdain during an episode of The Layover. The culinary powerhouses were in awe of how the world’s ingredients were brought together under one roof. It is an international food creator’s paradise.

Las Delicias de la Abuela - Columbian
Las Delicias de la Abuela is translated as Grandma’s Delights and is a relative newcomer to the BuHi scene. But it is quickly becoming the premier Columbian food destination, serving up arepas and empanadas that are to-die-for. They have a wide variety of fresh tropical juice drinks but, as you may guess, their panela sweetened Columbian coffee is out of this world.

Sweet Hut - Taiwanese
Sweet Hut places a Taiwanese twist on a wide variety of Asian fusion pastries, ranging from cupcakes to doughnuts and sandwiches. But the go-to snack is definitely the flaky and sweet egg tart. Wash it all down with a fruit slushie or one of their famed versions of bubble tea.
Quoc Huong Banh Mi Fast Food - Vietnamese
Quoc Huong is considered by many to have the best Bahn Mi around. The Bahn Mi is a Vietnamese staple sandwich that uses a French-influenced baguette and stuffs it with local Vietnam veggies such as cilantro, cucumber and carrots. It is topped with your meat of choice - but the signature sandwich here has BBQ pork and an added fried egg.

El Taco Veloz - Mexican
El Taco Veloz is the spot where Anthony Bourdain stopped for the wildly popular taco de lengua, an authentic Mexican snack with flavored beef tongue. The Chile Relleno tacos provide a great vegetarian option on a meat intense menu. Get your tacos served up traditional with a corn tortilla, fresh cilantro, onions and salsa verde. For dessert, grab a famed sweet and crunchy classic churro.

Northern China Eatery - Chinese
Northern China Eatery is tucked away in the back of a strip mall and serves up a variety of traditional Chinese items ranging from hot pot to fried rice and handmade buns. But make no mistake, it is their dumplings that put them on the map. Our recommendation is the juicy Shumai, an open top steamed dumpling with shrimp, pork, mushroom and egg.

Yet Tuh - Korean
Yet Tuh is not just another restaurant turning out the famed Korean BBQ. This is an award winning destination with heavenly dishes from the grilled mackerel to spicy beef soup. But, we think the go-to item is the seafood pancake. Squid, calamari, prawns, shrimp, and clams adorn this mouth watering dish.

Mamak - Malaysian
Mamak lies within a small, cozy setting and serves up authentic Malaysian dishes, a cuisine heavily influenced by Indian, Chinese, and Thai fare. This may be our favorite spot on the Buford Highway strip - but we’re not alone as Atlanta magazine places it atop their list of BuHi best restaurants. Start with the roti canai and then grab a bowl of their curry laksa soup.

Matcha Cafe Maiko - Japanese
Matcha Cafe Maiko is a frozen treat shop with authentic Japanese hot and iced matcha teas, but the real draw is the soft serve. The minimalist decor transports you to Japan - and you’ll find a monthly rotational flavor that they swirl with their classic matcha taste. Mmmm.
