Pirandai is very helpful for ailments of the stomach as well as heart. best cure for astric disorders. Pirandai contains vitamin C and vitamin E and is also a rich source of calcium.
Pirandai is of multifarious types such as ordinary pirandai, red pirandai, uruttu pirandai or ball-shaped pirandai, muppirandai, thattai pirandai or square pirandai, kalipirandai, theempirandai, puli pirandai and olai pirandai. Its botanical name is ‘Cissus quadrangularis’ and is also called ‘viggravalli’. It belongs to creeper variety. also called a s the adamant creeper , devils backbone .

paste form (thuvaiyal)of this pirandai is very useful in treating swelling due to injury, pain, muscle aches , joint pains etc .

Pirandai podi

Ingredients

3/4 cup black udad dal
1/4 cup chana dal
2 tbsp toor dal
1 tsp pepper
1 tbsp black sesame seeds
Few curry leaves
2 cups washed chopped pirandai
1 gooseberry size Tamrind
6-8 red chilies
1 piece asafoetida
sesame oil for stir frying and some for individual roasting .
Salt

Method

Wash and clean Pirandai stems by discarding leaves , peeling off the outer skin carefully after applying oil on hands .

Chop all the stems . Add oil to a pan , add tge chopped stems of pirandai , allow them to fry till almost crunchy to remove moisture . Alternatively you can also air fry and use , or roast in microwave for oil free pirandai .

To a pan , add a drop of oil to fry the asafoetida , roast till they puff up . Remove .
Next roast thec individual dals , oil fry chilies , curry heaves , pop the sesame seeds , all separately as shown . Oil fry the Tamrind bits till crispy but don’t burn .

Cool all ingredients and powder to a almist smooth texture or preferred texture . I have kept it semi smooth with coarse texture so that they taste delicious when mixed with hot rice and ghee .

Store the prepared powder in a airtight container or glass jar for longer shelf life . This powder can be used as dosa idli Milagai powder too .
