Wyvern 404 refurbished and review - Highlighting vintage hooded nibs

Описание к видео Wyvern 404 refurbished and review - Highlighting vintage hooded nibs

This is the first of several videos where I'll be delving into the world of hooded nibs. I have a line up of some known and then some not so well-known brands with some hooded nib varieties. First up is a Wyvern, a British made pen, that has a lovely red/black marbled celluloid with a semi hooded nib. Learned a bit about this company and was pleasantly surprised by its lovely springy nib. While his particular pen did what many other companies did, simply slip the normal nib and feed into a newly designed hood without the inventiveness of the Parker 51 collector or filling system, it does seem to stand up as a solid lever fill fountain pen with the new modern design of the 1940s. I look forward to collecting a few pens from this brand in the future.

The major addition of this video to my typical restoration series is the removal of nibs/feeds from the hood sections. Rather than relying on a knock out block set up you basically have to use the section to hammer your knock out rod/dowel into the bottom of the section to bring the feed out of the top part of the section - kind of like a jack-hammer action. I'll hopefully be able to show this particular maneuver in more detail in later videos.

Let me know what you think about hooded nibs and the different variations. Any thoughts our experiences with the Wyvern Pen Co?
