On Friday the 18th of January, the Official Opening of the Robert Gregory National Alkaptonuria Centre took place.

The National AKU Centre was officially opened by the AKU Society patron, Lord Kenneth Ward-Atherton, with centre lead, Dr L Ranganath, and founder of the AKU Society, Robert Gregory.

The National AKU Centre is a free service in Liverpool funded by the Department of Health, open to anyone over the age of 16 who has been diagnosed with AKU and living in either England or Scotland. Patients who attend the NAC receive a full health assessment and treatment of Alkaptonuria (AKU), access to the drug nitisinone, and advice on living with the disease - including a physiotherapist and dieticians advice. It is needed to ensure that everyone who has AKU has access to a knowledgeable team of specialists who can manage their care efficiently.
