The Latin Breakdown: Hip-Hop's Latino Connection" will take you, on a sonic journey, that commenced in our ancestral home of Western Africa, and into the Caribbean.

From the rebellious sound of Puerto Rico's "Bomba", at the turn of the 1500's, to the earliest Afro-Cuban bands, that impacted the sound of jazz, in NYC's "tango cafés", during the late 1910's, birthing some of NYC's signature genres such as Latin Jazz, Latin Funk, and NY Rican Soul, Bugalú, all the way up to the era of Fania Records, to how American musical genres, adopted the Afro-Carribean percussive breakdowns, onto genres like Funk, Soul, Disco, and eventually the earliest iteration of Rap music.

This documentary will focus on how the cóngas, timbáles, bongós, el cencérro, and la clave, became fundamental, in the music, that was being played, in the park jams, in The South Bronx, at the B-Boy strongholds, like PS 129, JHS 118, and St. Martin of Tours, just to name a few. These "Latin groove" laced B-Boy anthems, is what made the Breakers "BREAK", and still break to, to this day!
