CRYSTALLOGRAPHIC AXES:

There are 3 crystallographic axes namely a, b & c which are unequal in length. a axes is inclined to c axes and is called as Brachy axes, b axes is also inclined to c axes and is called as Macro axes. The c axes is called as Vertical axes.

(1) c / Basal Pinacoid: It consists of two similar faces, index face cutting c axes and remaining parallel to a & b axes (001)

(2) b / side / Brachy Pinacoid: It consists of two similar faces, index face cutting b axes and remaining parallel to a & c axes (010)
(3) a / front / Macro Pinacoid: It consists of two similar faces, index face cutting a axes and remaining parallel to b & c axes (100)

(4) Prism: It consists of four similar vertical faces, index face cutting a & b axes at equal length and remaining parallel to c axes (110)

(5) Hemi-Prism: It consists of two similar vertical faces, index face cutting a & b axes and remaining parallel to c axes

(6) b / side / Hemi-Brachy Dome: It consists of two similar inclined faces, index face cutting b & c axes at unit length and remaining parallel to a axes (011)

(8) Quarter Pyramid: It consists of two similar inclined faces, index face cutting all the three axes at unit length (111)
