Описание к видео Sensor Basics - 3+ Light Sources for the Most Reliable Photoelectric Sensor Application

Finishing out my series on photoelectric sensors with a discussion on 𝟯+ 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗣𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. Light sources are an important part of selecting an optoelectronic sensor & knowing more about the environment & the target are key to selecting the right light source for your application:
🔰 Are you on a small budget?
🔰 Is the environment dirty or dusty?
🔰 Is the target small or big?
🔰 Does the positioning need to be precise?

There are three common types of photoeye light sources:
🐴 𝙍𝙚𝙙 𝙇𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩: 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙝𝙤𝙩𝙤𝙚𝙮𝙚 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠𝙝𝙤𝙧𝙨𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙗𝙚𝙨𝙩 𝙥𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙚 𝙥𝙤𝙞𝙣𝙩. A visible red LED light is “sprayed” from the emitter making it easy to position & align the sensor to the target. Good for easy targets in general factory automation applications. These typically become a problem when the environment contains sprays or dust or debris as the lens gets occluded/blocked and false trips the sensor.
🎯 𝙇𝙖𝙨𝙚𝙧 𝙇𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩: 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙤𝙤𝙡. Typically Class 1 or 2 are most common with Laser sensors, this only means don’t purposefully look at it & not thru a lens or optic. Lasers are best for small objects & precision positioning of the target. Lasers can be fooled by dirt/debris in the air if it is as large as the beam.
💪 𝙄𝙣𝙛𝙧𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝙇𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩: 𝙎𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙜 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙏𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝 𝘼𝙥𝙥𝙡𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨. Infrared is outside the visible spectrum, but these sensors typically have a high gain on the light source. This means the light can burn thru a sheet of paper or more importantly it can overcome misting, grease or dust in the air that disrupt other light sources.

There are many other light sources, but I briefly mention 2 more:
⚪ 𝙒𝙝𝙞𝙩𝙚 𝙇𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩: 𝘾𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙧 𝘿𝙚𝙩𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣. When used with 3 receivers (RED, BLUE, GREEN) we can use white light to calculate the color of an object & detect with precision the presence of that color/material. Very commonly used to color match in automotive interiors & packaging materials, color sensors use white light LEDs to detect the presence of a certain object color.
🟣 𝙐𝙑 (𝙐𝙡𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙫𝙞𝙤𝙡𝙚𝙩) 𝙇𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩: 𝙐𝙑 𝙧𝙚𝙛𝙡𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙙𝙚𝙩𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣. With UV light, we can do some special things as the sensor only looks for UV light in the receiver. UV tracers can be put in glues to detect the proper application in assembly or bad parts can be marked with an invisible ink that is visible under UV light so that they don’t return to production. UV sensors are commonly used in error-proofing & assembly applications.

When selecting a photoelectric light source, it is most important to consider the target and the environment of the application for the best results.

Until next time, ask yourself: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗪𝗜𝗟𝗟 𝗶 𝗔𝗨𝗧𝗢𝗠𝗔𝗧𝗘 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁?
