Because the Night è una canzone rock scritta da Bruce Springsteen e Patti Smith, e pubblicata come singolo principale dell'album della Smith del 1978 Easter. Patti Smith ha dedicato questa canzone al marito Fred Smith.

La canzone originale fu registrata da Bruce Springsteen durante le sessioni del suo album Darkness on the Edge of Town. Il gruppo di Patti Smith stava lavorando su Easter nello studio di fianco a quello di Springsteen.
