Life in an Informal Settlement in South Africa has many challenges for its residents. Inadequate Water and Sanitation , Illegal Electrical Connections and up to 6 people living in 3mx3m shacks are but some of the many challenges that these mostly jobless residents have to live with.

Despite promises made by Municipality and Government over the last 24 years, little or nothing has been done to improve their living standards. This has resulted in several violent and often damaging protests by shack-dwellers in the last few weeks.
