I wrote this poem while grieving my recently deceased brother, and performed it at his funeral. Long Live Sa'Von!


Calling for Savon
 
I busied myself with mundane tasks after I heard the news
 
But when the work was done, and there was nothing left to fix or clean, I knew it was time to face the truth
 
I sat on the grass and wept, when suddenly a cool breeze blew
 
In that moment I knew, I would never be without you
 
And every time I stepped outside, I would encounter the proof

The sun warmed my skin, and I knew your slender arms held and comforted me
 
The leaves rustled, and I knew it was your voice I heard speak
 
A dragon fly landed on my shoulder, and I knew it was you visiting
 
A bird soared past, and I knew you’d been given your wings
 
I saw a single yellow flower, and knew you’d always be within reach
 
I felt the wind, and I knew you were drying the salt water tears that rolled down my cheeks
 
I went to the ocean, and I found you at the beach
 
See, you are a part of me, and we are a part of everything
 
Taking on temporary forms, but we are eternal beings
 
Your energy is now one with all living things

You taught me that heaven isn’t a place in the sky
 
It’s right here on earth with you and I
 
And none of our loved ones ever really die
 
Whenever I call for you, there you shall reside
 
All I need to do, is take a step outside
