Possibly over 3,800 years old, the Nebra sky disc is attributed to the Únětice culture of the Early Bronze Age of Central Europe. It is made of bronze with a blue-green patina and inlaid with gold, featuring depictions of what could be the sun or full moon, a lunar crescent, stars including the Pleiades, and arcs marking the solstices. X-ray fluorescence analysis showed the copper likely came from Bischofshofen in Austria, while the gold and tin seem to have originated in Cornwall, England. The Nebra disk currently seems to be the oldest known depiction of astronomical phenomena in the world. It measures 30 cm (12 in) in diameter and weighs 2.2 kg (4.9 lb).

This artifact is now housed at the State Museum of Prehistory in Halle, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. It was recovered by police in a sting operation in Basel in 2002 after being looted in 1999.
