This is Episode 24 of my Bible in a Year journey, moving through Exodus 15–17 — where celebration gives way to formation.

Exodus 15 begins with a song.

Israel sings because the threat is gone.
The sea has closed.
The enemy is no more.

Praise rises naturally, almost effortlessly. God is named as strength, salvation, and victory. For a moment, faith feels simple.

But the wilderness does not interrupt worship all at once.

It waits.

Three days later, water is bitter.
Soon after, food is questioned.
Then thirst returns.
And finally, conflict arrives.

Exodus 15–17 traces the slow shift from relief to dependence. The people are no longer trapped — but they are not yet trusting. Freedom has been given, but faith is still learning how to live without certainty.

Grumbling surfaces quickly. Memory becomes selective. Slavery begins to look safer than provision that must be trusted daily.

God responds, again and again.

Water is made drinkable.
Bread falls from heaven.
Rest is introduced before the people know how to receive it.
And when conflict comes, victory depends not on strength alone, but on sustained dependence.

These chapters show that faith matures in repetition, not spectacle. Praise after a miracle is natural. Trust in daily provision is learned.

Exodus 15–17 does not depict failure — it depicts formation. God does not abandon His people for their immaturity. He trains them through it.

This episode stays with the wilderness — where worship learns to last after the song ends.
