We recently caught up with Andrew Wood, the Treasurer of St Matthews, the first UK church to trial the Halo heating range. Andrew discusses how the Halo infrared heaters have worked in heating their congregation. St Matthews had initially considered heat pumps for the church however Andrew is delighted with the decision to choose the Herschel Halo instead and the results from using Halo over the winter of 2022. Since installing the Halo, St Matthews has been able to abandon gas to heat their congregation for Sunday Service and the cost is only £10 for the 1.5-2 hour service. Compared with the historic gas heating which had to be turned on for a couple of hours before the Sunday service given the vast roof space, the heat effect from the Halo heaters is instant.

To showcase the radiant heating capabilities of the Halo, we used thermal imaging to capture how it heats a congregation. The results were astounding - the heated zone experienced a sharp and significant rise in temperature. In just 5 minutes, the temperature had already increased from 11°C to 18°C, and after only 20 minutes, the heated zone measured at a comfortable 22°C.
