The climate crisis affecting every aspect of life on Earth, can, in part, be tackled by our individual actions in our personal and professional lives at whatever level and scale we are capable of. We are far stronger and more effective acting with kindness and compassion, and in community with others. One common bond for all is water – water flowing through our bodies, water flowing through the land, water flowing through all life on Earth.
Joanie is going to share some of the programs and projects of LSWC (Lake Superior Watershed Conservancy) and LSWC Inc, who are set up to work as sister charity organizations in Canada and the USA with a common mission and purpose for the health and well-being of the Great Lakes. There has never been a more important time to contribute to this water-health work for the whole Being of the Great Lakes.
LSWC has three land trust preserves, oversaw the 1000-km connection of the Trans Canada Trail Lake Superior Water Trail between Whitefish Bay to Thunder Bay, and operates an on-water, cultural and ecological interpretive program, Canoes for Conservation.

OUR SPEAKER
Joanie McGuffin is the Executive Director of a local land trust, the Lake Superior Watershed Conservancy, whose mission and purpose is to care for the Lake Superior watershed through conservation, education and active participation. Over the past 40 years, multi-month canoe journeys with her partner Gary have provided her with a unique perspective on water’s connection to land and all life. These journeys have given them a broad perspective of people and places connected by waterways and forested landscapes --- the original highways traversed by Indigenous Peoples for thousands of years. This big picture perspective of how water connects us was the reason for founding LSWC 20 years ago.
