Описание к видео The Great Heroic Age ~ Paul Akers, Georgia Heckman & Greg Otterholt

The Great Heroic Age - written by Paul Akers (Vocal/Guitar)
Featuring Georgia Heckman (Vocal/Piano)
& Greg Otterholt (Vocal/Harmonica/Shaker)

The story of Sir Ernest Shackleton is one of the most heroic adventures at sea. Shackleton lost his ship "Endurance" to the massive ice flows off the coast of Antarctica yet saved his shipmates despite the deadly conditions presumed lost at sea. The song chronicles the death-defying journey of this historic explorer and his brave crew.

The video concept illustrates being carried off in imagination by this inspiring story. Then I envision a song, carried off in a dream as a siren of the sea magically appears to help sing the story. Another ghostly character appears to complete the musical triad. Page by page the story unfolds. Then one by one... my mystical friends fade as the dream disappears and I return to reality and close the book.

THE GREAT HEROIC AGE by Paul Akers
Verse 1
There was a time so long ago
where courage knew no age.
Where men would dream
the impossible ...
and adventure called their name.
"I need 28 crazy men...
Small wages guaranteed.
Darkness, danger and bitter cold.
Doubtful safe return you see."
The smallest chance. Remote at best...
that we might succeed.
Impossible adversity...
Lost 18 months at sea.

Verse 2
In 1912... an Irish lad... 30 years and change
Dreamed a dream beyond himself...
To challenge and to gain.
The mystery a distant land...
frozen in time...
Would test the limits of each man...
Epic failure or success
Their battle to return back home
from the uncharted continent.

Chorus
But if by chance we make it there
and glory should await...
Then history will tell the tale
and the courage of your days.
To be recognized as one of few
that turned the tattered page.
The tapestry and tales of men
and The Great Heroic Age.

Verse 3
"Endurance" was the ships fine name...
But little did they know...
Required from each and every one...
a magnitude not known.
To cross the mountains ice and sea
Then the Stationmaster said...
"Who the hell are you?"
"Sir Ernest Shackleton."
And he turned his head and shed a tear
To the living and the dead.

Verse 4
But not one man died...
not a single one...
Despite the bitter cold.
For 18 months they all endured...
While never losing hope.
For the Irish man, they all called boss...
Would lead them all back home.
Epic failure or a grand success...
For me a song my best attempt.
To tell the stories and tales of men...
And the uncharted continent.

Chorus end
But if by chance we make it there...
and glory should await.
Then history will tell the tale...
and the courage of your days.
To be recognized as one of few
that turned the tattered page.
The tapestry and tales of men
and The Great Heroic Age.

The boys, the men, Sir Shackleton
& The Great Heroic Age.
