Описание к видео Stitches For Survival Climate Scarf on Glasgow Green during COP26, November 2021, Glasgow

Stitches For Survival was a craftivist art installation at COP26. It started as an idea in March 2021, just 8 months or so before COP26. Individual panels of 1 metre each were crafted by about 1,500 people from around the UK and Ireland including some panels from Canada. Each panel was knitted, sewn or crocheted in shades of blue and green, using recycled materials where possible. Each panel is beautifully unique and carries its own climate message for the global leaders. Many panels were crafted in public places in order to start conversations about climate change with passers-by.

All these individual pieces of art were then hand-stitched together by a dedicated team at R:evolve Recycle in Glasgow. This collectively produced a 1.5 mile long "Scarf" which was displayed on and around Glasgow Green at COP26 in November 2021. 1.5 miles was decided upon because 1.5 degrees is the target limit set by the Paris Agreement beyond which natural systems will break down irreversibly.

The scarf has now been repurposed into blankets for refugees and playmats for children with some panels continuing to be displayed at various venues and museums around the UK. Some sections continue to be used for campaigning purposes at climate camps and climate demonstrations around the UK continuing on the passionate messages the crafters wanted to convey.

If you know of anywhere that would like to host a display of sections of the scarf, please get in touch with us https://stitchesforsurvival.earth/con...
