[SHARE w/someone who needs to take the bus more often. 😉]

With nearly 6,000 buses, the NYC bus system is the largest municipal bus fleet in the United States, and people definitely don’t take advantage of this as much as they could.

Buses are an especially good option if you’re traveling “crosstown” (which is east-west) or are in boroughs other than Manhattan. The reason for this is because— for the most part— the subway doesn’t really run east-west in Manhattan, and subway lines aren’t always as convenient geographically in other boroughs— thus, making the bus system a helpful option.

P.S. Yes, the L and 7 run east-west in Manhattan, and the G connects Brooklyn and Queens— these are exceptions, however, not a representation of the subway system as a whole.
