How to compare poems effectively | Top grade tips

One of the trickier skills to master in English Lit assessments is comparing poems. Analysing one poem is already hard enough, so imagine having to juggle two (or three!) poems - all the while ensuring that we’re not compromising on the depth of our analysis. So I’ve come up with 5 steps in this video to clarify this somewhat befuddling process.

00:31 - Step 1: Summarise the main idea of each poem in 1-2 sentences
02:21 - Step 2: Find similarities between the poems
03:28 - Step 3: Find differences from the similarities you've identified
05:09 - Step 4: Identify 3 main points of discussion for the main body section
06:15 - Step 5: Summarise the poems' similarities and differences in a comparative statement
