Skydio 2 drone flight test at Mt. Burdell

High-altitude wildfire smoke adds a lovely orange tone that pairs well with the Mordor-esque summer landscape at Mt. Burdell Open Space.

I started the day repeating the mantra of "I'm going to crash this thing and it's OK" to achieve the maximum Zen outlook on the inevitable fate of this incredible piece of technology. That said, the performance of the Skydio 2 drone was nothing short of amazing, even if we did have a few hiccups in the trees. Since there were no other riders / hikers, next time I may try disabling the height floor in hopes it will more aggressively duck under obstacles. It got stuck twice, both times when at low altitude trying to motion-track from the rear in fairly dense tree cover.

I was using the Beacon accessory, mounted to my handlebars, although I've since decided to switch to using velcro to make it easier to separate it from the bike in situations where I need to go rescue the drone. It seems to be pretty secure on the top-tube using some decent 3M velcro strips.
