The development of space transportation systems & structures for space raises a huge number of requirements and challenges that need to be mastered. Important keystones to achieve fully qualified and operational systems, are still extensive test campaigns in addition to the digital development in the scope of the design and qualification process.

A major advantage within #dlr is the ability to have access to a wide range of test facilities and options, that can be used across its various institutes.

In the scope of the development of the CALLISTO landing leg structure and its thermal protection system, various development test campaigns were carried out in order to enable a safe and reliable design and to improve and deepen our knowledge about important technology for the reusability of future space transportation systems.

We are currently taking big steps towards the qualification phase before procuring the flight hardware for CALLISTO.

Those test activities rely on close cooperation between DLRs institutes. In this case, specifically to mention:
