ACKO Health Insurance is one of the newer players in India’s retail health insurance space. Their big promise? A paperless, agent-free, direct-to-customer plan that cuts down commission costs and gives you everything digitally—OPD coverage, unlimited hospitalisation, even wellness services. But is the reality as impressive as the brochure? In this video, we explore the two plans ACKO currently offers—Standard and Platinum—and do a side-by-side comparison of their features, pricing, fine print, and real-world usability.
Let’s start with the basics. Both ACKO Health Insurance Standard and ACKO Platinum plans come in individual and floater options, with tenures of 1, 2, or 3 years. The Standard variant offers sum insured options of ₹10 lakh, ₹25 lakh, ₹50 lakh and ₹1 crore. The Platinum version gives you a choice between ₹1 crore and unlimited cover—something few insurers dare to offer. And yes, restoration is built-in even in the Standard variant, with unlimited reinstatement for unrelated illnesses.
Both ACKO Health Insurance plans cover pre- and post-hospitalisation expenses for 60 and 120 days, all day-care treatments, domiciliary care, AYUSH treatments, and organ donor expenses. There are no co-pays, no disease-wise sub-limits, and no room rent restrictions. Even consumables—those hidden costs like gloves, masks, and syringes—are covered up to the sum insured. Annual health check-ups are included from age 18 onwards, and second medical opinions are part of the plan.
So far, ACKO Health Insurance looks strong. But here’s where it gets nuanced. The Standard plan comes with the usual waiting periods: 30 days initially (except for accidents), 2 years for specific illnesses like cataracts or hernia, and 3 years for pre-existing conditions. But the Platinum plan uses dynamic underwriting—offering 0 to 3 year pre-existing disease waiting depending on health assessment. While that sounds great, it also means your actual waiting period is only confirmed after the underwriting is done.
ACKO’s Platinum plan is also packed with OPD and wellness perks. You get doctor-on-call services, access to diagnostics and consultations through a network of providers, and even a monthly no-claim OPD voucher. Some of these are fully covered, others are simply discounted through partners. You also get daily hospital cash, accidental death and disability benefits, and mental wellness support. But here’s the thing: not everything in the Platinum brochure is free. Many of these are facilitated by ACKO but paid out-of-pocket unless clearly marked as included in your plan.
If all of this sounds promising but you’re still not sure what’s best for your family, book a quick, no-pressure call with Ditto. Our advisors will compare ACKO Health Insurance with policies from HDFC Ergo, Niva Bupa, ICICI Lombard, Aditya Birla, and more — and guide you based on your exact age, health status, and goals. When it comes to performance, ACKO Health Insurance clocks a 96% Claim Settlement Ratio (average of 2021–2024), 82% Incurred Claims Ratio, and 17 complaints per 10,000 claims settled. Their hospital network includes 10,500+ hospitals. But ACKO’s support ecosystem is still evolving. Unlike older insurers who’ve been handling hospitalizations and grievances for decades, ACKO’s retail health product is just about a year old. This means the claims experience is still not fully tested in high volumes.
So what’s Ditto’s view on ACKO Health Insurance? It’s modern, feature-rich, and works well for younger, tech-savvy users who don’t need hand-holding. But for families looking for high-touch support during hospitalizations, it may feel risky. If a major claim goes wrong, there’s no agent or aggregator stepping in to help. You’re entirely on your own. And for a product as sensitive as health insurance, that’s something worth thinking about.
