'Sam the Dog', the lucky mascot of English Lakes Hotels Resorts & Venues, was launched into space on Tuesday 5 April 2016 via a helium balloon with GPS tracking equipment and cameras.

The space launch from the Midland Hotel was part of an educational science project for the children of Morecambe Bay Community Primary School.

The equipment landed in a field near Burnley, but Sam had become detached during re-entry and was nowhere to be seen when his tracking equipment and live telemetry systems were recovered.

Sam the Dog is still missing in action. According to the flight data, it is thought that he returned to earth within a 40-50 mile radius of the landing site.

English Lakes Hotels Resorts & Venues are looking for new leads as to Sam’s whereabouts.

The children of Morecambe Bay Community Primary School would love to see Sam the Dog safely returned with tales to tell of his adventures.

A reward is on offer for his safe return: the person who finds Sam will be treated to a complimentary stay at the iconic art deco 4 star Midland Hotel.
