Bailey Streetscene supply a versatile and robust seating and table solution to the new Henry Royce Institute at the University of Manchester.

The Henry Royce Institute is the UK’s national institute for advanced materials research and innovation. With a vision to identify challenges and to stimulate innovation in advanced materials research to support sustainable growth and development.

Extending across 9 floors and located at the heart of The University of Manchester’s Engineering campus, it will foster world-class collaborative research in tandem with industry to act as an international convener for materials research excellence. The building design is intended to allow ‘Science on Show’ – areas of the building visible to engage people outside – while also providing closed, confidential spaces for commercially sensitive work.

Named after Sir Frederick Henry Royce OBE, a British engineer famous for his designs of car and airplane engines. Henry Royce manufactured his first car in Manchester in 1904, and in 1906 co-founded Rolls-Royce.

In the center of the new campus development is a new green space, which has the Linares Seating and Table units supplied by Bailey Streetscene. Linares is a hugely adaptable seating & table solution that delivers a classic, consistent look to the external space.

With its robust steel frame structure, high-quality FSC timbers, and simple clean lines, the attractive and eminently practical Linares series is perfectly suited to contemporary external spaces within high footfall educational settings.

A further feature of the design is the option for interspersed seating as used in this project - opening up the space to be inclusive and wheelchair accessible.

The project furthers our experience of working within the education sector and with the University of Manchester in particular, becoming a trustworthy and reliable supplier of external furniture having previously worked on a number of projects such as The Whitworth Art Gallery, Brunswick Park, and the Samuel Alexander Building.
