Art Stars To Know - Paulo PJOTA

Today Paulo Nimer PJOTA is opening his first solo painting show in the United Kingdom in London’s Maureen Paley Gallery. A rising Brazilian art star, Paulo Nimer PJOTA makes paintings that have a quiet, brooding power. In our recent studio visit he talked on camera about his background in graffiti, his passion for makeshift survival culture and his love for urban music. Working on large un-stretched canvases and found metal sheets in which he in-paints plants, vases and isolated words as well as cartoon figures and historical characters, Pjota’s seemingly battle-scarred works suggest a world ripped from the abandoned streets of a video game.
