Garden Scooters - You Gotta Get One!

Garden Scooters are becoming quite popular with gardening enthusiasts, and for good reason! Instead of bending over or working off your news when you are cultivating beds or doing weeding, these devices allow you to sit down, and scoot along as you finish each area. Many scooters feature a small tool tray to keep pruners, blades and diggers handy, as well as a tub holder so you can put the pulled up weeds and trimming in the tub as you go.

There are a wide variety of scooters on the market. There are 3 tire and 4 tire models, some are made entirely of plastic, some are hybrid metal and plastic, and some have blow-molded tires, or rubber tires with tubes.

We chose the AM Leonard Garden Scooter, because of its almost all-metal construction, four robust no-flat tires (which helps resist rutting and sinking in soft soil), combo movable steering/pull handle, adjustable height old-time tractor style metal seat, and trimmings basket. It’s spiffy orangish color was a plus, too! At the time of this episode, we paid about $135 for our scooter.

OUR TAKE ON THIS PRODUCT? Overall, we are pleased with what we got, but there were some improvements both in how the unit was assembled, as well as the fit and finish. We ended up with a great tool, but we needed to do some enhancements and minor part replacements (washers and one small missing tool tray fastener) to get it to be the quality that we feel should have been in place when we opened the box. We’ll give you detail in this episode!

It’s likely we’ll further modify this unit to install an oversized umbrella to keep us in the shade as we use the scooter. That will allow us to extend our working time while keeping cooler longer and avoiding unnecessary sun exposure.
