FCT Minister Issues Ultimatum to Abuja Landowners and Ibadan Stampede Tragedy

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has given owners of 762 plots of land in Maitama II District, Abuja, a fresh two-week ultimatum to pay for their Certificates of Occupancy or risk losing their allocations. This follows the recent revocation of land belonging to prominent figures, including former President Muhammadu Buhari and House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, for non-payment. In Ibadan, a tragic stampede at a Christmas funfair claimed 35 lives, predominantly minors, raising concerns about event safety protocols. Additionally, ECOWAS has approved a new framework to guide military-led governments in West Africa back to democratic rule, addressing rising concerns over military regimes in Mali, Burkina Faso, and Guinea.
