In Nigeria, over 40 million people are healthy carriers of the sickle cell gene (Hb AS) while an estimated 150,000 babies are born with the anemia every year. This is by far the largest burden of the disorder anywhere in the world. Therefore, awareness of preventive and palliative methods is a big determinant on the quality of life of a carrier.

For this reason, MultiChoice partnered with the Sickle Cell Foundation Nigeria (SCFN) to use the DStv and GOtv platform to raise awareness of the disorder and raising funds for the Foundation thereby promoting good health and better well-being.

The SCFN, a non-governmental and non-profit making organization founded in 1994, is dedicated to the proper care and control of the sickle cell disorder in Nigeria”
