Final years of the Penrice Stone Train

Описание к видео Final years of the Penrice Stone Train

From November 2012 to June 2014, I made an effort to get extensive coverage on the "Stonie", at the time being the final broad gauge freight train to run in South Australia. The service began in 1950 & would run twice a day (except Sundays). By 1988 it was reduced to once a day (the two trains combining) but included Sunday. From July 2013 the train only ran on Tuesday & Friday with a maximum of 20 hoppers, before running for the last time on 24/6/2014.

From 1950 until March 1978 the service was operated by South Australian Railways, after which Australian National took over. When AN were sold off in late 1997, Genesee & Wyoming ran the service until the end. Diesel locomotive classes that were used over the years are 900, 930, 830, 700, BL, GM, CK (ex VR T class) and DA (modified 830 class). By November 2012 only 841, 843, 844 & 704 were used on the Stonie, with 831 based at Penrice's Osborne facility for shunting.

All clips until late 2013 were hand held (tripod used from then), & were recorded with a JVC Everio until May 2014 when I started to use a Sony Handycam.
