Grafting citrus trees under a microscope using a grafting technique known as shoot tip grafting is used by California scientists to avoid all graft-transmissible diseases when introducing a citrus variety to the state. Any citrus variety can be introduced to the state of California through the CCPP. When grafting orange trees, grafting lemon trees, or grafting citrus trees of any other variety, citrus hobbyists and nurseries can avoid the spread of deadly citrus diseases by sourcing their budwood from the CCPP.
