Danka Schnall - Holocaust Survivor Testimony

Danka was born in 1928 in Boryslaw in the Polish Ukraine. She was an only child.

In September 1939 Danka’s father was called to join the army and defend Poland. She never saw her father again. Life for the Jews of Boryslaw changed forever when the Germans invaded in June 1941.

Danka’s mother smuggled her out of the ghetto and she moved from one house to another. In 1944 she was homeless so she went into the work camp for Jewish prisoners in order to find people that she knew. She was sent to Auschwitz and later worked in other camps before being liberated from Dachau. None of her family survived the Holocaust.
