The purity of the air we breathe is vital, and air pollution affects us even before our very first breath, until our last. Across the world, the World Health Organisation estimates that around 4.2 million people are dying prematurely because of poor quality air, a rather terrifying figure.

To celebrate Clean Air Day tomorrow, our experts Kathryn Woolley, Air Quality Lead, and Margarethe Theseira, Head of UK Consulting, discuss the work Buro Happold is doing, and why improving air quality is so important; for our own health and wellbeing, and that of the planet.

On the importance of air quality, Kathryn said: “It has wider benefits, whether that's for climate change, with all those emissions of carbon no longer released, but also actual people's general health and wellbeing.”

Margarethe added: “If you are cycling or walking, you would want to do that through an area that’s not going to damage your health.”
