12 films, 3 years.

Feel like the end and the beginning of an era.

In the last few years I’ve made a collection of strange, vibe-heavy, non-narrative (or maybe “abstractly narrative”) films, all made with a super lowfi/no budget approach. I wanted to see how far I could go being uber-scrappy and embracing those limitations as creative strengths.

And, overall, I’m really proud of how they’ve turned out.

To use a music analogy—these short films have been more like “instrumental compositions” than “real songs”. Or—like the difference between a song’s arrangement and the song itself. Melody/lyrics vs. accompanying instrumentation. With these short films I’ve focused purely on experimenting with possible “cinematic arrangements” for the kinds of films I’d like to make in the future. Most of my favorite filmmakers care BOTH about the atmosphere AND the character/story on a deep level.

All this to say, after 3 years of focusing on these more abstract/non-narrative experiments, I’m ready to embark into the world of narrative/character-based films moving forward.

Finally bought myself a cinema camera, got a group of wonderful friends/collaborators, and excited to see what we’re gonna make in the future. 🤘🤘
