Artwork by Take Me Back Pirate Radio Archives. Asher D also known as Ashely Walters, impacted the UK Garage scene from an early stage as a solo artist/MC and part of the infamous Garage click, the So Solid Crew. He was also part of the Southside Allstars (Asher D, Big Rem, Kidman, Jiggalo, Nikkie S & Nyke). Asher D featured on a number of London pirate radio stations, his main base was on south London's, Delight FM 103.0. He initially started out on Supreme FM 96.1 and featured on So Solid's hit tracks like: 21 Seconds, They Don't Know, Back In The Day, Why Me?, along with a whole heap of famous hits. He's known for his famous clash with Dizzee Rascal and Wiley. This led to a bitter dispute and things got out of hand with people getting seriously hurt. This also created the beginning of a long rift between Wiley and Dizzee. Asher D has been credited as being ahead of his time, writing lyrics which most listeners would find relevant in Grime music today and not over the UK Garage sound. There's no denying the top notch lyrical content and flow that he possessed.
Apart from his musical talent, Asher D is also famous for his acting career. Firstly, featuring in minor roles on ITV's The Bill, to the highly rated Netflix series, Top Boy, playing the famous role of Dushane, alongside Kano whose screen name is Sully. Also featuring as the main character Ricky in the UK drama/thriller film, Bullet Boy (2004) which took the British Independent Film Award for Most Promising Newcomer, that year.
Dub Plate Mex needs no introduction, he was part of So Solid Crew alongside the likes of DJ Swiss, Dan Da Man and DJ Oxide. He was always never short of a dub plate and liked playing a mixed selection of soulful Garage with underground classics. In early 2003, he released his first solo track on So Solid Beats entitled "Dub Plate Mex" which was also signed to Independiente. DJ Mex has also been credited as one of the founding members of London and the UK's Grime movement.
