Mortgage Forbearance and the CARES Act - CAUTION!

Mortgage forbearance has hidden land mines if you aren't careful. If you need the help of forbearance, by all means take advantage of it, but go into it with eyes wide open. This is NOT free money. If you can make your mortgage payment, make your mortgage payment! The CARES Act is designed to help those in desperate need of mortgage relief, it is not designed to simply skip 6 mortgage payments. The payments skipped will have to me made up at some point in time. You need to ask very specific questions when applying for forbearance. And watch out for mortgage forbearance scams! Only speak to your loan servicer who can be found on your mortgage statement. They are the only ones who can safely help you.
