Chinese parents immigrated to give their kids better opportunities—and it worked. Their children are now educated professionals, admired in society. But in many Chinese churches, those same children—now adults in their 30s and 40s—are still treated as "kids." This cultural and generational disconnect is why many 2nd Gen Chinese-American and Chinese-Canadian Christians leave their home churches or face major conflicts. While Chinese culture says, "Dad is never wrong," Western culture values open dialogue and leadership by merit. One church—SVPG in Canada—is modeling a better way: giving up control and investing in the next generation. If more churches followed, we could stop the silent exodus.
