Breaking character just for a moment to tell you a story as this Metamorphosing promo week comes to an end.

When I was 15, I had long blonde hair and a scruffier face, wore ripped jeans and played in a garage band with my mates. The whole neighborhood knew us, except we only knew how to play two songs: The Kill by 30 Seconds to Mars and Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana. Some call it novelty, I’d call it range. 😹 However, that’s when my love for Nirvana and my admiration for Kurt Cobain started. That’s when I also started to learn how to play the bass and it was my first instrument. One day I got compared to him (looks wise) at a music store and it was the best compliment I’ve ever gotten then. I decided I wanted to “live and breathe grunge” and decided to stop showering - not my smartest decision, thank GODs that did not last long. But I tried to live by the “rules” Kurt left behind, slightly adapted to myself:

1- Rock absolutely any and every stage you step foot on.
2- Love thy gay friends (I didn’t know I was one of them at the time).
3- Be unapologetically yourself - even if it drives your family crazy.

I started showering again, so the grunge didn’t last, but I followed my dreams since then. I didn’t know one day they would take me to Aberdeen in a random road trip, and that would awaken that rager teenager that I’ve always had inside of me. Somehow, walking through the streets where Kurt Cobain grew up and hanging out at the park where he used to hang out made me feel like I was watching my life from the outside - almost like an outer body experience. I suddenly saw myself again, at 15, living my best life, playing music with my best friends and dreaming big. I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for Kurt Cobain, and that day, I had the chance to say thanks to him. I played him a song. Asked for his blessing. Felt a gush of wind. And I know that somehow, wherever he is, he heard me.
