Samudra Manthan the great Hindu legend where gods and demos churn the cosmic ocean for obtaining nectar of immortality (amrita) and various other riches but before that Halahal (great poison) comes forth which threatens all living beings and no one but Lord Shiva is capable of handling it, so for sake of all living beings almighty Lord Shiva drinks poison and holds it into his throat earning great name as Neelkanth which means one who has blue throat.
