महासागरीय धाराएं महासागर के संचरण प्रणाली के क्षैतिज और लंबवत घटकों से बनी होती हैं जो कि गुरुत्वाकर्षण, हवा के घर्षण और समुद्र के विभिन्न भागों में पानी के घनत्व भिन्नता से उत्पन्न होती है। ऐसी जलधाराएं महासागर की सतह पर वर्ष भर एक निश्चित दिशा में चलती रहती हैं। तापमान के आधार पर महासागरीय धाराएं गर्म या ठंडी हो सकती हैं। भूमध्य रेखा के पास गर्म महासागरीय धाराएं बनती हैं और वे ध्रुवों की ओर चलती हैं। ठंडी धाराएं ध्रुव या उच्च अक्षांशों से उष्णकटिबंधीय या निम्न अक्षांशों की तरफ चलती हैं। उन्हें प्रवाह, गति और आकार की दिशा के आधार पर - बहाव, धारा और स्ट्रीम तीन भागों में वर्गीकृत किया जाता है।Please subscribe second channel
